Making Periods less Taboo:Part 1

aisharebeccawritesMay 23, 2016

For all the women in the world who are still penalised for having a period. Something which is completely natural and unavoidable. (See video below)

A taboo-free way to talk about periods | Aditi Gupta

This TEDtalks video appeared in my YouTube news feed last week. It was a raw, eye opening seminar on one women’s experience of growing up in India, the stigmatism surrounding periods, the secrecy and “dirtiness” of menstruation and how this is still happening in 2016.

I will watch it in more depth, and hope you will too. Next week I’ll post “Part 2” on the subject-my views on periods being a taboo and what I believe we should be doing as a  society to re-educate young girls, older generations and cultural societies on a completely natural, and not necessarily unhygienic topic. We need to promote “healthy periods” and help the world to see this monthly topic for what it is, a natural process and part of women growing-up and living a healthy, happy life!
